Welcome to Dreadlock Tarot's Blog! For my first post I want to do something fun we are calling "Dread Spreads"! These are tarot spreads that you can do with your own Tarot deck! So this spread is called "Pros and Cons". With Tarot being such a versatile and amazing tool for self-discovery and solving life's many mysteries, we sometimes forget that we can also use Tarot to help us make simple, complex and sometimes trivial life decisions! Here is a simple and fun spread for you to do to help you make up your mind on any subjects:
Line 1 Line 2
Hidden Truth Hidden Truth
Let's look at an example. Lisa and her husband have been house hunting and they have recently narrowed down their search to two houses. Right now she lives in the town that she grew up in, surrounded by friends and family. They have now narrowed it down to two different houses. One of the houses is out-of-state, but both Lisa and her husband could easily transfer jobs. The other house is in the adjacent town with better schools. Let's look at the cards I drew for Lisa.
Ok, so lets analyze this spread (by the way, this deck is The Golden Tarot by Kat Black). Line 1 is about the house that is out-of-state. The pro is that this is the kind of house that Lisa and her husband have always dreamed of raising their family in. It is a big home with a large backyard and beautiful kitchen which made Lisa happy because she loved to entertain friends and family. The con is that the house would be somewhat of a financial strain on Lisa and her husband because it is a bit out of their price range. Even more so now because Lisa recently found out she was pregnant with their second child. In the hidden truths position we see that while Lisa would love to live in this house and she knows her family would prosper here, it makes her sad that moving in would take her hours away from her family and friends. One of Lisa's biggest hopes for her children that they would grow up surrounded by family the way that she did. The outcome card shows Lisa regretting moving far away and not being able to enjoy her new home because she is constantly missing her family and friends.
Ok, now lets look at Line 2. So in the pro position, we find out that this house is a major fixer-upper. A lot of work would need to be done to the house in order for the family to move in. But when Lisa looks at the house, she sees a lot of potential. She can see what it would look like with a fresh coat of paint, new carpet and a little fixing up in the yard. In the con position we have the Nine of Cups, which is usually seen as a very positive card. In this position, we see that while Lisa's dream is to live in a great house near her family, she has also always dreamed of moving away and staying in the same town she has lived in her whole life makes her feel like her life is stagnant. In the hidden truths position we see that this house would be a huge undertaking for Lisa and her husband with all the repairs that would have to be done. In the outcome position we have the Ten of Wands which is the ultimate "happy family" card. Lisa and her family would be extremely happy in this home near her family.
Now with these 2 lines Lisa can make the decision about which house is best for her family! I hope you can use this spread to help you with your decisions too!
